The Conservation Farm is a working school with the goal of teaching four main items.

    * Concentrated gardening methods
     * Alternative housing
    * Self sufficient living skills
    * Voluntary simplicity

The Conservation Farm is a 10 acre parcel of land located in the western part of Montana only 10 miles from the Montana / Idaho boarder. We are located 35 miles south of Missoula, Montana
north and east of the rural community of Corvallis. (click here for directions)

T
he weather is normally mild with summer time temperatures in the 70's to 90's with a few days each year where the daytime temperatures can reach into the 100's. Winters

Greenhouse Part of voluntary simplicity is a return to the "back to basics" approach to living. Here at the Conservation Farm we eat the fruits and vegetables that we grow. The beginning of this process is germinating and raising bedding plants to be transplanted into the main garden area.

 Obtaining self sufficientHerb Pond living is a real challenge in todays society. Living on the Conservation Farm is a life style change that is not for everyone ... but for those who make this conscience choice the reward is a pleasant change. We try to teach these principals to those with a like interest.
V
oluntary simplicity involves a lifestyle change away from the busy commotion of the corporate world to a slower, simplified existence with a balance of old time common sense basics and modern tools that can make the trip more productive and more enjoyable.

Herb Garden & DriveSelf sufficient living skills is not "rocket science". It is, however, a change in attitude coupled with learned skills that requires determination, an open mind and a willingness to try new ideas and experiment with "new" techniques which have been largely forgotten or lost over the years.

We don't have all the answers but we are learning daily. We have been working hard for the past 8 years to create an environment where others can learn with us many of the secrets that our grandparents learned during the tough years of the depression era. They were willing to teach but for the most part ... we were too busy to learn. We at the Conservation Farm are trying to change that.
